    Superb

Lovely building, friendly staff, excellent location

    Good

The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good.

In severe need of a make over, paint peeling, beds very uncomfortable and shower cold.

    Pub was friendly

    Street fighting; no response from night porter; bathroom facility on opposite side of hotel to room - about 100 feet away; room poorly supplied (sign in room indicated robes were available but staff said there were none); room very hot;

We have stayed here before and the main reason we came back is because it's so bad it's fantastic! It is very central to Southampton city center. The staff are very friendly and there was a great choice for breakfast. Though the hotel is drab looking, the staff do try to make you comfortable and welcome. It's a shame they can't spruce it up this hotel has the potential to be amazing!

The room wasn't as clean as I would expect. We were upgraded to a "delux" room, it had an extra double bed. One of the cups had a massive crack in it, which even after the cleaner had been in wasn't changed. The sink in the bathroom was also cracked. There were no bath mats, so you either had to use a hand towel on the floor or put up with water everywhere. Vacuuming never seemed to include the edges of the room or under furniture. There was also dubious staining on the walls by the bed. I know there are better rooms in the hotel, but it seems if you get a deal through comparison sites you get the low quality rooms. We also didn't really appreciate someones else's porn left in the dvd player. Itseems the little things have been overlooked at The Star Hotel, and after all it's the littl things that make places amzing.

    Good

    Breakfast was excellent

There was no bath mat (or towel mat) so had to step onto tiled floor coming out of shower. Kettle didn't work and the glass lamp shade over my bed came off and hit me on the head.

    Exceptional

The staff were very friendly and happy to help. The location was excellent, right in the centre and on the main high street, although this didnt cause any noise disturbance. The rooms were very clean and funcational.

    Exceptional

Its quirkyness.Situated in a listed building, very old fashioned, but somehow quite cosy. Very well placed and convenient for all ameneties.Extremely pleasant and helpful staff both at reception and breakfast restaurant. Clean and comfortable accomodation.

Plates for breakfast main course a little on the small side.

I would firstly say the staff were very nice helpful, I stayed for the first time at The Star Hotel 2years ago. This being my second stay. There has not been anything done to the hotel, The add did say it had a make over. Showing photos of new rooms. Well we did not get one. We got a very old shab room. To the point it now dose not look clean.(passed its sell by date) In the dinning room above the food there is fules plants with about 10years of dust, "yuk" bed's are very very uncomfortable not very good on my back that I do know,Second night work men at the back. So on the hold two sleepless nights. I would say that where the hotel is they should be alot cleaner/comfortable/ Its a lovely old charming building needs alot of tlc. Breakfast wasgood be nice if we could of had meal at night. I would stay again,But next time I would be saying, Cause paying the price that they wnat I would like better deal

I like where the hotel is close to all I need, The staff are very nice friendly, Its just a shame the building is starting to let them down

    Good

very nice staff, good location, many discos around hotel, comfortable bed

rooms are very poor standard. stains on the carpet, old furnitures, awful shower and whb. bad smell inside the restaurant where the breakfast was (which was ok, but couldn`t eat because of mentioned "smell"). all in all i would not recommend this hotel to anyone who could find a better one.

    Superb

My daughter stayed here with a friend whilst looking around Southampton University. They found the location excellent for the City Centre and reasonably convenient for transport to the University.

    Very good

Although I was on business the location of the hotel is excellent for would be shoppers. The staff were friendly & helpful. The hotel was quiet even though it is in the centre of town. The bed was really comfortable. I would stay again.

    Very good

Central location, convenient free bus service to/from station

I couldn't get the free wi-fi to work (there are wired connections available), and I couldn't get more than one channel on the tv. Neither were important.
